NEW PROMISES
He looked at her sleeping form and smiled lightly, she just looked like an angel descended from heaven, her hair sprawled all over him and the pillow, her makeup was smudged and she lay before him in all her glory, showing her vulnerabilities to him. She was in deep sleep and he could clearly hear her even breathing in the silence of the room. He moved a little closer to her and she made irked faces in sleep as a lone strand of hair grazed her cheeks and disturbed her sleep. Smiling, he was about to tuck it back in place when she herself did it and he just sighed again looking at her sleeping form.
His hand moved to her, he didn't wanted to disturb her sound sleep, well he had barely let her sleep post their private midnight anniversary celebrations and he knew she needed some rest before she started her day in the Bhalla iyer circus they lived in where everyone would need her help for every little thing. Her mother must be keen on having a Pooja for their anniversary while his mother would want a grand, loud Punjabi celebration.
He just smiled sarcastically at himself thinking how he and his family managed without her for whole seven years and his hand didn't stop any longer for the need to feel her with himself overpowered everything and he touched her very gently like she was a freshly bloomed flower he didn't wanted to hurt with his touch.
He recalled all the venom he had spit at her years ago in rage and again cursed himself for his harsh words to her back then. He wished he could go back in time and undo all that had happened that day, but alas he couldn't.
Her sleep broke feeling his hands roaming on her curves; she opened her eyes lazily and glanced at him.
"kya ravan kumar... are you not done yet?"
She spoke yawning softly making him chuckle. He bent towards her and rubbed his nose with hers while she cupped his face in her palms and blew a soft kiss on his temple.
"not yet... I wish I could love you ever and forever"
He spoke making her smile, the curve of her lips, something that he adored more than anything else in the world and yet he was the one who had snatched that away from her and forced her to try to give up her life and live away from him and her family for seven long years.
"what time is it?"
Her voice broke his stupor; he glanced at the clock and told her that it's close to six making her sigh. She still had some time in hand before she would have to wake up and get back to her usual routine. She stretched her hands lazily forgetting that only a thin sheet of satin was all that covered her modesty and it was slipping off her, something she didn't realized until her husband's hand moved up and covered her back, securing that sheet back in place as he knotted it making sure it doesn't slips away again and diverts him from doing what he wanted to do now. She smiled at his act and turned to him, now facing him fully as his hands halted in the tour of her body the moment his eyes met hers and she smiled at him putting her hands on either of his shoulders.
It was their tenth wedding anniversary today and they were together, after seven long years, the first one they had had after a long separation of seven years, something that they had written in their fate with their angers and the habit of putting everything else above them and their relationship.
He looked at her once again, trying to look for any signs of anguish and hatred for him, he had pushed her to the extent that she tried to commit suicide, questioned her motherhood, called her a bad omen and cursed her being but still he couldn't find any. How could this woman forgive him just like that, how could she still love him after what he did to her, how could she be so forgiving to him, to a man like him who could never give her an ounce of happiness she deserved in life he wondered.
"hey ravan kumar, where are you lost?"
She asked shaking him gently finding him lost in his own thoughts when she was expecting for some romantic, flirty comment from him, something that always fluttered her heart and made her blush like a teenage girl.
He just looked at her tucking away that imaginary strand of hair in its place as he fidgeted with his words, not knowing where to start from.
"I am sorry ishita, I am sorry... I know my sorry can't undo anything, it can't erase the pain and hurt I gave you seven years ago but... I don't know why I ended up behaving like that that day, I knew how much you loved ruhi and you were as much hurt as I was, we had lost our life, our rooh and that wasn't easy for you either. I had promised to be with you, to share your pains and griefs but I failed terribly ishita, I failed as a father and I failed as a husband. I blamed you for everything that happened to supress my pain, I thought you'll see through my anger as always and be with me but I had forgotten that you too are human and I was hurting you beyond forgiveness. I am sorry ishita, I know my sorry can't bring back the time we have lost... but I still am sorry, sorry for everything ishita, sorry for being a failure, a jerk and a horrible husband"
He spoke in between his tears while ishita just looked on as her own tears were unstoppable now. Those seven years without him had not been easy for her, she was living like a lifeless person, in the memories of her ruhi and raman but at least she knew that he was alive, all healthy and breathing, she was content knowing about him through media but what had she done to him, she had forced him into believing that she was no more, that she had given up her life because of him and his harsh words.
He was not right in what he had said to her that night but was she completely right, no she wasn't. She had kept things under cover, hidden her plans from him and they had ended up losing their daughter. He blamed her and she just left his life forever letting him and her family believe that she was no more in the world. What a convenient way she had chosen to hide herself from everyone, hide her pain and her failure of not being able to protect her daughter from nidhi. If he was guilty, she was at fault too.
"shh raman... don't' cry please"
She spoke wiping his tears with her thumb as she made him face her and looked right into his eyes.
"I know what happened was not right and somewhere, we both were wrong at our places, we had married for ruhi, but fell in love with the other with the passage of time but our relationship always stayed for ruhi only. We failed to work on our relationship Raman, we became the best parents for our kids, supporters for our family but we failed as a husband and a wife raman. And it is not only your fault; I am equally responsible for it too. I too had kept truths hidden from you many times; I too had been a horrible wife at times."
She spoke almost breaking into tears and when holding herself became impossible for her, she just leaned herself on him and cried her heart out.
He had let her cry for he cried along with her; both poured out their emotions, their pains and bared their souls to the other, went emotionally naked before the other all over again.
He cupped her face after a while and tore her from himself, breaking their hug and the moment before he leaned in and kissed those tears away. She held him tight as he kissed her all over her face and ran his tongue over her lips.
Her lips parted on their own, surrendering to him as she closed her eyes waiting for his assault but he just pecked her lips gently and broke away. She opened her eyes to look at him and found him slowly gripping her hand and tightening his hold on hers.
"It's our tenth wedding anniversary today ishita and today, I want to promise you something, and this time, I will keep this promise. I want to promise to you that no one will be as important to me as you; everyone will be secondary in my priority list from now on. I promise to keep my anger in control and try to be the husband you had always wanted me to be. I promise to work on our relationship, to share things with you no matter what and I promise to never hurt you again, and if I forget any of my promises, you can hit me, slap me, beat me, do anything and bring me back on track
He said making her chuckle while he continued
"and I promise to love you always"
"I promise to be your support raman, I promise to work on our relationship and involve you in all decisions, I promise to shift my priorities and give you the time you deserve, I promise to love you, ever and forever"
She took the vow with him and both looked at the other smiling. He engulfed her in the tightest of hugs while she just rested her head comfortably on his shoulder feeling like a burden had been lifted off her chest after having talked to him while he too was feeling lighter having shared everything with her.
Both looked at the other after a brief second and smiled once again promising to the other to do everything possible to fulfill these new promises they had made to the other.
